It was hard getting Diamond status here in the UK, but today Hilton made it that little bit harder. They have removed the ability to match your status of a competitors loyalty programme to their top tier elite Diamond status in Honors.
It’s not all bad though, you can still status match to mid-tier Gold (which still gets you the real benefit; breakfast) and then uplift yourself to Diamond. The number of nights required for this status has also increased.
How does it work? Well, all you have to do is fill in the form located on the below website. This includes uploading a screenshot or photo of your current status with a competitive programme (such as IHG Platinum or Spire):
Once this has happened you’ll be sent confirmation of your status upgrade to Gold and your 90 day period begins. In this 90 days your total stays will qualify you for the following status:
- Gold: Stay 10 (not stays) nights to keep Gold through March 31, 2021.
- Diamond: Stay 18 nights (not stays) to be upgraded to Diamond through March 31, 2021.
If you do not meet the above requirements your status will revert to your previous level. You should think how much you’ll use Diamond status over Gold, and whether Gold is easier to earn by taking out the Amex platinum card.
What do you think of this big change to one of the most generous schemes in loyalty here in the UK? Let me know in the comments below.
