A first time cruiser or a frequent cruiser with a different cruise line and fancy stepping aboard an MSC cruise ship with elite status? We’ll show you how to match your cruise or hotel loyalty scheme tier to the MSC Voyagers Club.
What Does It Mean?
Don’t let the cheesy model couple press image from MSC put you off, there is loads of value to extract from this status match. If you are thinking about booking an MSC cruise then it’s worth doing, as you’ll get a 5% discount on your cruise price from the outset. The only thing to remember is that you need to cruise within 2 years, and then take a cruise every 2 years to upkeep your Voyagers Club tier.
It’s an interesting offer from MSC, status matching is not a done thing in the cruise community, and long-standing cruisers are passionate about earning and protecting their benefits. It is a clear message from the company that they have ambition and are willing to disrupt the American corporation dominated cruise industry.
Furthermore it is also of interest that you don’t even have to be a cruiser to status match, they’ll accept applications from hotel loyalty schemes too. I recently matched a Hilton Honors Diamond member to black for their first cruise.
As a result of the status match they received a huge range of benefits including:
- 5% Booking Discount
- Priority Boarding
- Sparkling Wine & Chocolate Dipped Strawberries Delivered to the Cabin
- Speciality Restaurant Meal for 2
- Black Member & Voyagers Club Exclusive Party Events
- 1hr Thermal Spa Entry
- Free Dance Lesson
- Gift (normally a drawstring bag or cap)
- Chocolate Ship Model
- Late Cabin Checkout on Departure Day
If you’re not a top tier with any loyalty scheme, there are some good benefits to the lower tiers (even if you are bottom tier with another cruise line then the 5% discount is worth it). You can find the benefits matrix here:
What Tier Will I Match?
MSC do not publish their tier matching matrix, but in most cases if you are top tier with a mainstream comparable scheme then you will also receive Black Voyagers level. There have been exceptions to this, and matchers have recently reported less success at top tier matching from hotel brands.
You should always select the most prestigious competitor cruise line status rather than your hotel one if you hold top tier in both. If you are silver in NCL Latitudes and Diamond in Hilton, I would go with the Hilton to match.
How Do I Apply?
You’ll need to fill in the form online and provide proof of your current status within your loyalty scheme. This can be in the form of scanning your loyalty card or a screenshot of your online portal showing status. They may also request further proof of a recent cruise or stay invoice, both of which can be scanned and sent across.
The turnaround is normally very quick, with most applications coming back within 3 working days, and in most cases same day. You will receive an email with a PDF attachment containing your status.
